Bursa is a fluid-filled sac that works like a shock absorber. Inflammation of the bursa causes bursitis. Inflammation of the rotator cuff can also be due to impingement – wherein acromion (shoulder blade) rubs against the tissues of the rotator cuff. All these conditions of the rotator muscles can lead to shoulder pain, inflammation, and swelling.
Frozen Shoulder
Stiffness in the shoulder joint with pain and inflammation is known as frozen shoulder. It can occur without any known cause. Any condition that causes inflammation is supposed to play a role. However, the condition eases on its own.
Shoulder Sprain
When the ligaments in the shoulder are overstretched, inflamed, or torn, you will get a shoulder sprain. A sprain can happen to any ligament of your shoulder. The most common causes of shoulder sprain include falls, injuries, or accidents.
Shoulder osteoarthritis
Shoulder osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition of the shoulder joint. It occurs when cartilages in the bone joint break down and are worn out due to excessive use or general wear and tear. Shoulder arthritis can significantly affect those who have it though it is less common and severe than knee or hip arthritis.
